Shape Chick

This is a fun, craft activity to help your child learn the names of some simple shapes.

You will need to make shapes from paper or card to create an Easter chick. You can draw them, colour them in, cut them out and then place and stick them in the correct places to make a cute chick for Easter.

Talk to your child about the shapes they need to make the chick.

You will need:

One medium circle for the head

One large circle for the body

Two small circles for the eyes

Two ovals for the wings

Three small triangles, two for the feet and one for the beak

If your child needs help to see the shape of the chick, you can draw an outline for them to see where to place each individual shape. Like this:

Finally, place the shapes in the correct positions and when your child is happy with their finished chick, stick them on.

When the chick is complete ask your child questions such as:

Which shape did you use for the head?

Which shape did you use for the beak?

Which is the biggest shape?

Which is the smallest shape?

Can you see an oval?

Where is the medium circle?

How many circles can you see?

Let’s talk

I hope you enjoyed watching the Easter videos yesterday. Today we are going to learn how to make an Easter nest. (You may need to wait until the next time you go shopping, and I hope they have what you need. (Any cheap chocolate will do).

You can also melt the chocolate in the microwave but keep stirring every 30 seconds it can easily burn. I think I’m going to use Shreddies to make mine.

Let’s Create Easter With Our Bodies!

Linking to our theme this week Miss Woodward thought it would be fun to create all things related to Easter with our bodies.

Here is Miss Woodward in action!

Hop like a bunny x10 – practising squishy toes and bending those knees.

Hop on one leg x10

Roll like an egg x2

Hatch like a chicken x10 – squat down and jump up.

Be a chicken x10 – move your legs and arms at the same time

Finish with the Easter cross statue. Stretch those arms out wide and stand still for 1 2 3.

You can do this activity as many time as you like.

Today we are going to sing a new Easter nursery rhyme about hot cross buns. I hope you enjoy it. Join in when you know the words.

Now you can sing along with Humpty dumpty then we are going to change some of the rhyming words.

Let’s write

Today is funky fingers day. Lets get warmed up with Superman. Remember to practice your pinch to hold your pencil in this song.

Today we are going to cut out an Easter egg shape and use our pinching fingers to rip it into little bits.

First draw the egg shape.

Now cut it out carefully with scissors. Remember to hold your scissors correctly.

Now hold the paper with two pinches and rip it into little bits. Make sure you help tidy up the mess at the end.

P.E with Mr Pahal

Mr Pahal sets challenges for the children in the school everyday, Miss Woodward thought it would be a good idea for nursery to have ago at this one. We have been practising our lunges in our P.E sessions so lets show our families how well you can do this.

All About Numbers

This week’s theme is about Easter. To help your child with their counting activity today they will need an Easter basket and some mini Easter eggs. I chose to draw the basket and then used some little craft foam eggs which I had at home. You could draw, decorate and cut out some eggs instead. You will need about fifteen mini eggs. If you choose not to draw the eggs you could use little toys instead.
