All About Numbers

Today’s activity is like Tuesday’s maths activity. We are going to have a group of objects to count and then move them around, count them again and know that the total amount is still the same.

To link with the story for this week, ‘Monkey Puzzle’, we are going to use elephants for the counting activity.

You will need:

4 elephants (or pictures, pompoms, Lego etc)

a river for the elephants

4 paper circles

number cards 3 and 4

First of all you need to count out three elephants, find the number 3 digit card and put one elephant onto each of the circles. Like this:

Count the elephants, one, two, three. Now move the elephants around on the circles. Like this:

Count the elephants again. There are still three, even though the elephants have been moved, none have been added, none have been taken away, the total is still three.

Now move the elephants around on the circles again. Count them as before, noticing that the total is still three even though the elephants have been moved, none have been added, none have been taken away.

Continue to rearrange the elephants, counting them each time. The key learning here is to understand that although the elephants have been moved the total number stays the same. None of the elephants have been taken away, none have been added, they have been moved but the total amount is still the same number.

Next repeat the above activity with four elephants using the number 4 digit card. Like this:

We hope you have enjoyed counting the elephants.

Please send us pictures of your maths learning.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Let’s Talk

For our talking activity today we are going to make some ladybird biscuits.

You will need:
– Digestive biscuits or any circle shaped biscuits
– Icing sugar tubes or any normal icing

Once you have made your ladybird biscuits, can you talk about them?

  • How many spots does your ladybird have?
  • How did you make your ladybird?
  • How many ladybird biscuits have you made altogether?

Now you can enjoy your biscuits nursery well done!

Let’s Write

Let’s get our bodies warmed up with this funky fingers today.

Great Job!

Today we are going to practice our name writing.

When you have written your name you can decorate around it with different types of minibeasts?

Remember to use your pinchy pinchy pencil grip and form the letters correctly.
