Leap Frog Number Time

For the maths activity today the children have been busy jumping like frogs and counting how many jumps they have done on the lily pads. This activity was all about recognising numbers and also counting the correct amount of actions.

All about numbers

For today’s number activity we are going to be jumping frogs across the lily pads.

Yesterday you made some lily pads for the maths activity. We are going to use those lily pads again and the number cards you have.

Now you have your lily pads we are going to be jumping like frogs on the lily pads. However there is a challenge you have to choose a number card and jump that many times.

Here I have the number 5, this means I need to jump 5 times and then stop. Count out loud to help you.

I now have chosen the number 3, I now need to jump 3 times on the lily pad.

You can chose which ever number you like from your number card. Have fun!

Send in your learning to us either a video or a picture – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Let’s talk

Today we are going to make a frog hat. Before we start enjoy this video of frogs jumping.

You will need:- some card, glue and pens.

Cut out two rectangle strips to fit around your head and a frog face shape.

Now join the strips and fit it around your head.

Add two eyes, a mouth and a nose to your frog and stick it onto the head band.

Fantastic frog hat.

Finally wear your frog hat and send a picture to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Ready to read

Today is all about rhyming. Here is one of our favourite number rhymes five little speckled frogs.

Now we are going to hear our story Oi Frog again but this time I want you to listen to the rhyming words in it.

Here are some of the rhyming words can you pair them up? (Remember rhyming words sound the same at the end of the words.)

Remarkable rhyming, well done.

Monday’s Afternoon Nursery

This afternoon we welcomed back our first group of children for the week. Today was the last nursery session for these children as they will soon be ready to make the move into their Reception classes in September. We have listened to stories being read by the children’s new reception teachers, online. The children have also been looking at photos of their classrooms.

It has been a lovely afternoon, with frog themed activities linked to our story, ‘Oi Frog!’ to choose from.

We also visited the school pond to look for signs of frogs and then we all jumped about like frogs in our outdoor area, singing a frog song.

Thank you for joining us today everyone. We hope you enjoyed your last session in Nursery.

Marvellous Monday

Lovely to see you back after the weekend.

Story Time

The children enjoyed listening to our new story this week, Oi Frog.

All about numbers

The children enjoyed the number activity today as they used lily pads and some to count.

Write dance

For write dance the children were linking their drawings to the story, Oi Frog as they draw the frog on the log.

The life cycle of a frog

The children have been busy learning about the life cycle of a frog. They also drew the life cycle and spoke about what happens in each stage throughout the cycle.

Thank you for sharing your learning with us Nursery, see you tomorrow.

All About Numbers

Today’s activity is linked to our story for this week, ‘Oi Frog’. The focus of the learning is to count out the correct number of objects from a larger group of them and match them to a given number.

What you will need

10 green circles

a pen

scissors

a collection of mixed small objects (Lego, coins, pompoms, pasta, buttons, mini dinosaurs, sequins, counters, stones, leaves or twigs etc.)

a plastic bowl, tray or paper plate to put the objects in/on

What to do

Draw 10 circles onto the green paper, or if you don’t have green paper just colour them in. They are for the frog’s lily pads in the pond.

Now cut out a small triangle from each circle to make them look like lily pads.

Next collect a variety of small objects from around the home and the garden, ready to sort and count out onto the lilypads.

Finally number the lily pads from 1 to 10.

Now you are ready to begin the maths learning. Carefully count out the correct number of objects for each lily pad. Make sure that the objects are sorted into groups too, putting just pompoms onto one lily pad, just Lego onto another etc. When you are counting the objects, touch each one in turn and count slowly.

We hope you enjoy this activity. It is quite a challenge to be able to count out the correct amount of objects from such a large group of things so good luck with this. We think you can do it!

Let’s Talk

For our talking activity today we are going to be looking at the life cycle of a frog.

Watch this short video to find out more!

Now we know a little bit more about the life cycle of a frog. Can you have a go at this activity?

Using the pictures below can you put them in the correct order onto the life cycle.

You can either draw the frog life cycle, or you can print these pictures for you to cut and stick them into the correct place.
Once you have finished your life cycle can you talk about it?

  • What happens first?
  • Then what happens?
  • What happens next?
  • What happens at the end of the life cycle?

Share your pictures of your frog life cycles – contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk
