Talk about Numbers

Hello everyone, hope you are all safe and healthy and that you had some special time together yesterday for Mother’s Day.

For many of our activities in Nursery we use a counting frame and today we would like you to find something which you can use as one, to help your child with their counting at home.

These are the counting frames which we use in Nursery. The child places one object in each space. They then count from left to right, saying each number name as they touch an object. For example in the last picture the child would be counting a total of four shells, counting, one, two, three, four, remembering the total as four.

You can make a five frame easily with, for example a piece of card from a cereal box, with five, even spaces drawn onto it, to help your child with their counting.

You can choose any objects to count with. I used coins on my cardboard box five frame but you could try Lego, cars, dinosaurs, pieces of ripped up paper, stones, anything that fits into the spaces, just remember to touch each object as you count. If your child is confident with counting to five, then you can make another five frame and add it on to count to ten.

Counting up to 10

If you have any questions or comments, please email or post on this blog. We can’t wait to hear from you.

Lets write

Can you draw a rainbow to put up in your window to share some love and brightness as people walk past. You can spot and count how many you can see when you for a walk too.

(Remember Social distancing – keep a distance from other people while you are out and stay safe)

Thanks for sending in this fantastic rainbow it has really brightened up our day.

Talk a lot

Happy Mother’s day

Yesterday was Mother’s Day when we say thank you to mums for all the ways they help us.

Talk at home:- Can you use ‘and’ and ‘because’ to make your sentence longer. I love my mum because she cooks my dinner. I gave my mum a card and some chocolate.

How do show your mum you love her?

What jobs does your mum help you with at home?

How did you celebrate Mother’s Day?

I had flowers and a card for Mother’s Day. Nathan gives me hugs and kisses to show me he loves me. He sometimes makes me a cup of coffee. He also made me breakfast in bed.

All change

Today is our last day of classroom learning until further notice. These six children have made it to the last day and have all received certificates this week for being fantastic friends and playing nicely together. Fantastic you’re the best we’re proud of you.

Join us on the blog every day next week for some exciting challenges. You can email us at ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk during Nursery while school is closed. Please add you comments onto the blog we would love to hear from you.

Stay at home and stay safe. Look after the people around you.

Spring is in the air

It has been a beautiful spring day today with a blue sky and the sun shining.  We have been out and about around school looking for signs of spring.

We have found a variety of colours growing.  New green buds and leaves, yellow daffodils, white snow drops, purple Muscari armeniacum and pink blossom.

We also found frogspawn in the pond.

Enjoy looking at our photos and talk about them at home.
