Marvellous Monday

Thank you to all of our children who have been working so hard today. It looks like you are enjoying the theme of ‘Teeth’ this week.

Some great ideas for counting. Fabulous!

Wonderful drawing and writing. Keep practising with your name cards. Such a beautiful, bright rainbow and a happy face to brighten up the day.

Funky Fingers and Green Fingers

What a fun activity this is, to post all of the coins into the money box. I wonder how long it took these children?

It is lovely to see the sunflowers growing so well. You must be taking such good care of them.

Keep working hard and having fun too. Send us your pictures to:

All About Numbers

This week we are learning about teeth and dentists. We have some counting activities for you today where you can count teeth in a mouth. First you need to draw a mouth. You could do this with a pen, or print one out on the computer, or draw it with chalk in the garden. I did mine with pen and one in the garden with chalk.

Next put some teeth into the mouth. You could cut some teeth out of paper, make them out of playdough, or use stones for the chalked mouth in the garden.

Ask your child questions such as:

Can you count the number of teeth at the top of the mouth?

Can you count the number of teeth at the bottom of the mouth?

How many teeth are at the top of the mouth?

How many teeth are at the bottom of the mouth?

Which has more teeth, the bottom or the top set?

Which has less teeth, the top or the bottom set?

Do both sets of teeth have the same number or are they different?

Can you put three teeth at the top of the mouth?

Can you put five teeth at the bottom of the mouth?

Repeat these tasks several times, challenging your child.

Have fun and send us your pictures to:

Dancing In The Seasons

Happy Monday Morning.

In nursery we learn about understanding the world which involves the different seasons. This P.E lesson gives the children the chance to experiment with their bodies and understand the seasons.

Brilliant dancing children!
To continue with this P.E lesson and also from last week’s learning, signs of spring.  We thought it would be a good idea to use your body to create the signs of spring.

Here is Miss Woodward’s ideas. You can use her ideas or create your own.

A growing flower – Squat down and grow taller and taller, reach tall onto your tip toes.
Frogs and Tadpoles – Squat like a frog and jump high (ribbit ribbit). You can choose Tadpoles if you like, you can move side to side slowly. As you can see Miss Woodward chose a frog!
Beautiful Butterfly – Move your arms next to you, up and down and fly like a butterfly.
Bunny Rabbits – You can hop on one leg like a bunny.
Some days in spring there is a gentle breeze – lunge side to side and create that breeze.

You are so creative nursery!

Keep up the good work and send in your pictures of your creative actions of spring. – contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Ready to read

At Nursery we are starting a new story called the Tooth fairy.

Enjoy watching the story and then look at our story map.

You will need someone to help you read the story. Then you can use the story map, to retell the story.

Can you make up your own actions to the story as you retell it.

Remember to practice it every day this week.

Fabulous Friday

What a fantastic day it has been for children sending in their wonderful pictures to us. You have been working so hard. Well done everyone.

Drawing and writing with good pencil control too!

Counting and shape work. Fantastic ideas for maths.

What an amazing model of a fire engine, you have worked so hard to build it together and paint it. Your plant is growing! It is great to see that the sunshine this week is helping your sunflower to grow.

Look out for new activities on the blog next week and keep working hard. Send your work to:

ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Let’s Be Fire Fighters!

I hope you have all enjoyed our fire fighter theme this week. To finish the week off with some fun P.E, we thought it would be a good idea to move our bodies in different ways but be FIRE FIGHTERS!

Miss Woodward has enjoyed being a fire fighter! And a little help from her dog climbing the ladder with her.

Here is all you need to be a fire fighter:

  • Put your uniform on (hat first, jump into your boots and pull up your overalls.)
  • Slide down the pole (bend those knees and move backwards.)
  • Let’s drive the fire engine (move around steering the steering wheel.)
  • Flash the sirens (get those arms in the air.)
  • STOP! I see the fire, quick squirt the water (lunge side to side and move your arms.)
  • Oh no! we need to climb the ladder (get those knees up.)
  • Drive back to the station (move around steering the steering wheel.)

Amazing work! You all make good fire fighters.
Have a lovely weekend, Stay safe.

Remember to send us your videos/pictures of you as a fire fighter. – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Talk About Numbers

For this number activity, we are going to use the number frames one final time. You will need two frames today. Find some objects to use for counting, I used elephants. Count the objects like you did before, left to right, touching each object as you count it. The task is to be able to say when the two totals are the same.

Count the objects in each frame. How many are there? Are they the same amount or different?

Repeat this activity with different numbers of objects, each time encouraging your child to remember the totals and say if they are the same or different.

You can then put some objects in one frame and ask your child to put the same number of objects in the number frame below it. Ask them to check the totals by counting both sets of objects afterwards.

Can you put the same number of objects onto the number frame? Count my objects. Count your objects. Are they the same? How many are there? How many do you have? How many do I have?

Firefighter Fun

As an extra activity to link with our firefighter work this week, why not have a go at writing numbers on flames? You could go outside to draw, paint or chalk the numbers and then put out the flames with some water, by squirting at the numbers with a squeezy bottle.

Image preview

Help your child to recognise numbers by using an empty washing up bottle or shampoo bottle to aim at the numbers they can read. Ask them some questions such as,

Can you find number five? Put out the fire squirt it 5 times! Can you find number three? Put out the fire squirt it 3 times! Etc.

I had a little go using chalks. Water play is always fun!

Can you find number two? Put out the flame squirt it 2 times!

Please continue to send us your pictures of your fantastic work. You are all amazing.

Lets talk

Spring is in the air.

I hope you are enjoying this sunny weather? I’ve been out in my garden looking for signs of spring. I hope you enjoy my photos. You may also spot some of the sunflowers we planted in school growing.

How is your sunflower doing? Has it got leaves and a stem? How many leaves has it got? How tall is your sunflower? Ask someone to help you measure. You could measure with Lego bricks if you like.

What colour flowers and petals can you see?

Can you see any buds?

Are all the leaves back on the trees yet? Not all my trees have leaves yet!

Make the most of this amazing weather and get outside in the garden. Let us know what you can see.

We’d love to see your spring photos. Send them to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Looking forward to seeing them.
