This is a fun number and creative activity. You can get busy making and learning your numbers at the same time.
First of all you need to make a big, pink tongue. You could paint it or make a collage with bits of paper and glue, or you might have different craft materials you could use.
Next you need to make some big teeth to go around the outside of the tongue. Egg boxes which have been cut up are perfect, or little yogurt pots. If not, big pieces of paper cut into the shape of teeth will work instead.
Make enough teeth to challenge your child and number them clearly with big digits. Then place them in order around the tongue from smallest to largest.
Ask your child to count the teeth, starting at number one and touching each one as they count them.
Continue by asking your child questions such as:
Can you find number two?
Where is number seven?
Which number comes after number four?
What is one more than eight?
Which number comes before two?
What is one less than six?
Make sure your child shows you the correct tooth each time.
Repeat the activity with different questions. Add more teeth (maximum of twenty) once your child is confident with the numbers, to make it more challenging for them. Have fun!
