All About Length

Today’s activity is all about ordering objects by length. The suggestion is to use towels. Find two or three towels of different lengths and ask your child to lie them down flat on the floor, side by side, in order of length, from shortest to longest. Like this:

Next, pick up the towels and ask your child to order them again, this time from longest to shortest.

Once the towels are in the correct order you can ask your child:

Which towel is the longest towel?

Which towel is the shortest one?

What colour is the medium towel?

Then set your child challenges such as:

Find a ball and put it on the longest towel.

Jump five times on the medium sized towel.

Do six star jumps on the shortest towel.

Find a teddy and put it on the longest towel.

Have fun with the challenges and send us photos of your ideas to:

Shape Bunny

This is another fun, Easter themed craft activity to help your child remember the names of shapes. You will need to make the shapes from paper or card to create an Easter bunny. You can draw them, colour them in, cut them out and then place and stick them in the correct places to make a bunny rabbit.

Talk to your child about the shapes they need to make the rabbit. You will need:

One medium circle for the head

One large circle for the body

Two small circles for the eyes

One smaller circle for the nose

Two large ovals for the ears

Two smaller ovals for inside the ears

One small square for the teeth

Four thin rectangles for the whiskers

Place the shapes in the correct positions and when your child is happy with their finished bunny, stick them on.

When the shape bunny is complete ask your child questions such as:

Which shape did you use for the teeth?

Which shape did you use for the ears?

Which is the biggest shape?

Which is the smallest shape?

Can you see a square?

Where is the smallest oval?

How many rectangles can you see?

Have fun with the activity and let us know how you got on by sending us your pictures to:
