Now can you use the story map to retell the story to someone in your house.

Dear zoo

Early one morning there was a boy who wrote to the zoo to ask for a pet.

First they sent me an elephant but he was too big so I sent him back.

Next they sent me a giraffe but he was too tall so I sent him back.

Then they sent me a lion but he was too fierce so I sent him back.

After they sent me a Camel but he was too grumpy so I sent him back.

Later they sent me a lion but he was too scary so I sent him back.

Then they sent me a monkey but he was too naught so I sent him back.

Next day they sent me a frog but he was too jumpy so I sent him back.

Finally they sent me a dog but he was perfect so I kept him.

All About Height

Today’s activity is all about ordering objects by height. The example is to use toiletries, plastic bottles of things from the bathroom that you use to keep yourself clean. Find two or three bottles of different heights and stand them up on the floor, side by side, in order of height, from shortest to tallest and then from tallest to shortest. Like this:

Once the bottles are in the correct order of height, ask your child questions such as:

Which bottle is the tallest?

Which bottle is the shortest?

What is in the medium sized bottle?

What height is the bottle of conditioner?

Then set your child challenges such as:

Find a piece of Lego and put it in front of the tallest bottle.

Put the piece of Lego behind the medium sized bottle.

Put the piece of Lego on top of the shortest bottle.

Have fun with the challenges and send us photos of your ideas to:

Keeping Fit Using A Ball!

Today our activity for P.E is Ball Fitness, this involves using a ball and moving our bodies to keep fit and healthy.

Miss Woodward has made a video for you to watch and then join in with.

  • When we are touching the ball with our hands make sure the arm in the air is stretching high and kept straight.
  • When we are jogging on the spot make sure our knees are up high.
  • When we are twisting our body make sure we are twisting fully side to side.
  • When we are touching the ball with our feet it is important you look at the ball to keep our balance.
  • When we are squatting make sure your bottom touches the ball to create the perfect squat.

Good Work Nursery!

Finish with a cool down

Count to 20 for each position and breathe in and out.

Send in your pictures or even videos, it will be really lovely to see the children trying hard and joining in. Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Let’s talk

Today we are using our hands to make monsters. You will need some paint or crayons, paper, anything you have for sticking on or just draw it, if you haven’t got anything.

Paint your hand or draw around it.

Now decorate you’re hand into the monster. Here are a few ideas:-

Remember to wash your hands really carefully to get all the paint off. This is like washing all the germs off. Make sure you don’t miss any and wash them for at least 20 seconds.

Can you tell someone at home how you made you’re monster?

Ready to read

Can you retell the Hungry caterpillar story to someone at home?

Keep practicing it through the week.

One sunny morning there was a tiny caterpillar who was very hungry.

So he started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate 1 apple but he was still hungry.

On Tuesday he ate through two pears but he was still hungry.

On Wednesday he ate through 3 plums but he was still hungry.

On Thursday he ate through 4 strawberries but he was still hungry.

On Friday he ate through 5 oranges but he was still hungry.

On Saturday he ate lots of sweets and cakes but that night he had a stomach ache.

The next day he ate through 1 green leaf and he felt much better.

After he wasn’t hungry but he was a big fat caterpillar.

Next he built a cocoon and stayed inside for two weeks.

Suddenly he nibbled a hole and pushed his way out.

Finally he was a beautiful butterfly.

Keeping Fit with Yoga and Joe Wicks

Well done to all of the children who are keeping fit and healthy by following these fun exercises.

Shorter and Taller or Shorter and Longer

Learning about measuring through a song and a game, then ordering own toys by height.

Busy Fingers

Lots of busy fingers today. Fabulous name writing and neat, careful circles too.

Remember to try all of the activities on the blog each day and send us the photos of your learning to:

Yoga Day

Today we are going to use yoga to feel fit and healthy as we stretch our bodies.
As I know lots of the children enjoy eating banana’s in nursery, this yoga story is all about Betsy the Banana.

I hope you enjoyed that story, can you come up with your own positions with your body to create your favourite fruit or vegetable?
My favourites are:
– Apple
– Cucumber
– Pineapple

I’d love to see your creations, remember send them to Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

All About Measuring

Here is a song that will help you to learn words about measuring and to find out about things which are longer or shorter than other objects.

When you have listened to the song, watch this video and see if you can find the tallest monster.

Now you have watched the video, have a try at this challenge. Find three toys and put them in size order, first of all, shortest to tallest and then tallest to shortest. Like this:

You can then ask questions about the toys, such as:

Which toy is the shortest?

Which toy is the tallest?

Which is the medium sized toy?

What size is the teddy?

What size is the ball?

Then set your child challenges such as:

Pick up the medium sized toy.

Cuddle the tallest toy.

Hold the shortest toy.

Have fun with the challenges and remember to keep in touch by sending us photos of your ideas to:
