All About Numbers

For our number activity today we are going to make a vegetable shop where you can buy vegetables or sell them to your family and be the shopkeeper.

Set up a little shop using vegetables from your fridge or your cupboard, whatever you might have. Then make some price labels, up to 10p, to put with the vegetables, like this;

Next, find some 1p coins to pay for your shopping with.

Ask someone in your family to be the shopkeeper and then buy some vegetables from them. You will need to ask how much the vegetables are and count out the correct amount of pennies.

I wanted to buy the cabbage for a stew I was making. I asked my daughter,

“How much does the cabbage cost?” and she said,

‘The cabbage costs six pence.” I counted out six 1p coins to give her for the cabbage, like this;

When you have finished buying your vegetables, swap over and have a turn at being the shopkeeper.

Ask questions such as:

How much are the carrots?

Which costs more the broccoli or the peppers?

Which costs less the tomatoes or the celery?

How many pennies do you need to pay for the cabbage?

Have fun in the vegetable shop and please send us your photos to:

Ready to read

This is the last week of the Hungry Caterpillar so you should be an amazing story teller by now. Here is a reminder of the story and the story map.

The Hungry caterpillar

One sunny morning there was a tiny caterpillar who was very hungry.

So he started to look food some food.

On Monday he ate 1 apple but he was still hungry.

On Tuesday he ate through two pears but he was still hungry.

On Wednesday he ate through 3 plums but he was still hungry.

On Thursday he ate through 4 strawberries but he was still hungry.

On Friday he ate through 5 oranges but he was still hungry.

On Saturday he ate lots of sweets and cakes but that night he had a stomach ache.

The next day he ate through 1 green leaf and he felt much better.

After he wasn’t hungry but he was a big fat caterpillar.

Next he built a cocoon and stayed inside for two week.

Suddenly he nibbled a hole and pushed his way out.

Finally he was a beautiful butterfly.

Can you answer there questions about the book?

Why did the caterpillar have tummy ache?

How long did he stay in the cocoon?

What did he turn into?

Let’s talk

This week we are still learning about healthy eating. Today we are learning about vegetable.

I have lots of vegetables at home. Here are a few of them. What vegetables can you find? They can be fresh, frozen or in a tin.

What vegetable can you find at home? Can you answer these questions?

What Vegetables do you peal?

What is the biggest and smallest vegetable in your house?

What Vegetable do you like best?

What is the heaviest and lightest Vegetable?

What do the vegetables feel like? (Rough, smooth, bumpy, hard or soft.)

Let’s write

Today we are going to design our own Beautiful butterfly. Let’s warm our fingers up with daddy finger.

Remember to hold your pencil with a pinch and go anti clockwise as you draw a circle.

How many different patterns can you make?
