All About Length

Today’s maths activity is linked to this week’s story My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh. It is a stripy activity today.

Watch this short video to see how you can make stripy strips.

The learning is all about putting the decorated stripy strips into order of length from shortest to longest or longest to shortest.

Now can you arrange the strips in order of height from shortest to tallest or tallest to shortest?

Please send us pictures of your colourful, stripy strips. We can’t wait to see how creative you have been and if you can put them in order correctly.

Let’s Talk

Using the story this week my mum and dad make me laugh , as they go to the zoo. We are going to enjoy a visit to the zoo.

What were the animals doing?

How did the animals wash?

What was your favourite animal?

Where did your favourite animal live in the zoo?

What did your favourite animal eat?

Now you have talked about your favourite animal, can you draw or make it?

Miss Woodard’s favourite animal from the video was the tiger. I like the tiger because they are bright and stripey and I like the way they leap and run around. I drew the tiger and I also made it with tissue paper.

Now it’s your turn Nursery.

Send your pictures and talk to contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Marvellous Monday

Today we have introduced a new story for this week and the children have had some fun with the activities that have been set around the story.

Story time

The story this week is all about my mum and dad making me laugh. The children enjoyed the story and have been showing a lot of interest throughout the rest of the activities.

Silly Socks

The children are having fun with some silly socks and they are playing the matching game.

Writing Time

The children have been drawing stripey ice creams from the story and practising their names.

Number time

Today the number activity was to count from a larger group and match the quantity to the numeral.

Busy Bees

More busy bees in nursery today showing off their sunflowers and joining in with wind the bobbin up.

Thank you for a lovely Monday boys and girls
See you tomorrow

All About Numbers

This is a spotty number activity, where the learning is all about counting out from a larger group, into an object such as a cup or a bowl.

You will need:

Number cards to 10, three cups or bowls and something which looks spotty to count with and a bowl to put them in. This could be sequins, counters from a game, pompoms or circles cut out from paper.

These are the things I used:

Place a number card by each of the cups. Then count your spots into the cup. Remember the number of spots must be the same amount as the number on the card in front of the cup.

Then empty the spots out into the bowl in the middle. Swap the number cards over with different ones and repeat the activity.

Count carefully, one spot at a time, into the cup. Check the total number of spots in each cup matches the number on the card in front of the cup. Repeat with all of the number cards to 10.

Which cup has the most spots in it?

Which cup has the fewest spots in it?

Can you put the cups in order from the fewest number of spots to the most?

Have fun counting the spots and send us pictures of your learning to:

Fabulous Friday

The children have really enjoyed the Rosie’s Walk theme this week and linking the book to different animal activities.

Story Time

The children have been enjoying the story of Farmer Duck today and they have also been looking for different stories around their homes that have animals in. Brilliant story telling boys and girls.

On My Farm

Last week the children enjoyed creating their own farm, today we thought the children would have another go at this activity and share with us what animals they have chosen this time. What wonderful farms children well done!

Name Writing

The children have been practising their name today and also focusing on the letters they find tricky. Remember practise makes perfect! Your writing is brilliant good job!

The activity today was to create a face using different objects. The children were very creative with this and have used some fabulous positional language whilst making their faces. Give yourselves a fantastic!

Another lovely week which has been shared with the children, we all hope you have a lovely weekend.

See you Monday!

Let’s Talk

Last week you all had a go at creating your own farm, the teachers really enjoyed looking at your farms and listening to what animals you had chosen.

Today we would like you to create a new farm but using different animals from what you had chosen last time.

Here is the video to remind yourselves what animals you may find on the farm.

Once you have created your farm draw and talk about it.

Here is Miss Woodard Farm, can you name the animals she has used?

You can use Miss Woodward’s template of her farm if you like. If you have a printer then right click the image and save it and then print.

Send it to your teachers to make them smile! Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Have fun
