All About Patterns

Linking to our Father’s Day theme I would like you to draw 8 ties.

We are now going make the ties stripey but there is a challenge, you have to follow the pattern.

Number 1 is the completed pattern
Can you recognise the pattern? I wonder if you can finish off the pattern on the other ties.

Once you have finished the pattern on Mrs Birchall’s ties you can come up with your own pattern with 3 different colours.

Let’s Talk

Today we are going to learn about a special day that is happening at the weekend, it is Father’s day on Sunday!

Father’s day is special day when you tell your Daddy’s that you love them and you can do this is in many different ways.

Here is Miss Woodward showing her Daddy she loves him with cuddles and having some holiday fun.

How do you show your daddy you love them?

On fathers’s day it is a day where we take time to appreciate the things our Daddy’s do for us. Here is a video for you to spot what things your daddy helps you with.

Now you have watched the video can you talk to somebody in your house about:

  • How does your Daddy help you?
  • What does your Daddy do that makes you smile?
  • How do you show your Daddy you love them?
  • What are you going to do to celebrate Father’s day on Sunday?

Send in your talk to us about your Daddy’s – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

All About Pattern

Today’s Math’s activity is linked to this week’s story My Mum and Dad Make Me Laugh. It is a spotty activity today, which Mum would like.

The activity is to make a beautiful, spotty butterfly. The learning is about counting the spots to make them the same number on both sides of the butterfly’s body. If you can try and make the pattern the same too that would be really clever. Like this:

You will need:

A butterfly

Some coloured spots (pom poms, plastic counters, sequins or coloured paper cut into circles)

Use the pom poms to make a pattern on the butterfly’s wings. Each time you put a pom pom on one side, you need to put the same type of pom pom on the other side. Like this:

When you have finished making your pattern count the pom poms to see if the number is the same on each side. On my pom pom butterfly I have 7 pom poms on each side and I have used the same colours in each place.

I did the same with sequins too. Like this:

This time I used 11 sequins on each side, the same colours in the same places.

Have a try at making your spotty patterns on the butterfly and please send us your photos. Don’t forget to count !
