All About Numbers

Today we are going to work on our 1-1 counting skills and then remember the total we have counted.

For this activity you need a 5 frame, 5 pieces of pasta or anything you can use that looks like a little snail and 1 cup or bowl.

Now you have got your resources can you put out the 5 objects you have onto the 5 frame. Just like this picture.

Now we are going to sing a song that Miss Woodward has made up for you to support you with remembering the total, here we go.

Great Job Nursery! Now that you know the song can you have ago yourselves counting the snails 1-1 and remembering in the total.

For example, count the snails as you touch them 1 2 3 4 5 … parents cover the snails up and say how many? The child should say 5 without having to count them again.

Enjoy the song.

Let’s talk

Today we are going to be making snails, but first we are going to find out a bit more about them.

Did you see their spiral shells and soft slimy body?

Now we are going to make our snail with a spiral shell.

You will need:- some paper and a circle to draw around, scissors, glue, pens and decorations.

Draw a circle for the shell and a foot shape and cut them out.

Draw a spiral shape and decorate the shell. Stick it to the foot and add two eyes and a mouth.

Now tell someone in your house how you made your snail.

Have fun.

Have a look in your garden to see if you can find any snails?

We found three yesterday. They do like the wet weather best, so this week may not be the best week to look.

Ready to read

Today our Nursery rhymes are linked to the minibeasts we are learning about this week. They are all about spiders. Enjoy them and then we will be thinking about some new rhyming words.

Down came the rain,

Incy wincy spider climbed up the spout again,

Our rhyming words today are rain and again.

How many more rhyming words can you think of?

The children are still sending their work in from previous days which is fantastic, lovely to see you all busy, We have farm visits and Fathers Day Celebrations. Also its lovely to see the child happy with their certificate. Well Done you!

Marvellous Monday Everybody! See you tomorrow

All About Numbers

Today’s Maths activity is a counting and matching number one. It is based upon our story of the week, Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. You will need ten simple drawings of snails, like these:

Draw circles on each snail’s shell, from one to ten.

Next, cut out the snails and colour in the circles on each snail’s shell.

Now write numbers on pieces of paper to make simple number cards between 1 and 10.

Choose a snail and count the number of circles on its shell. Find the correct number card to match to the total number of circles on the shell. Swap the snail with another snail and repeat the activity, matching the correct number card to it. Continue until all snails have been counted.

Finally colour in the snails’ bodies to complete the activity.

Good luck with counting and matching. Please send us photos of your learning to:
