Terrific Tuesday

Counting Caterpillars

Rearranging a number of objects and knowing the total number is still the same. Fabulous counting.

Rhyme Time

Great listening skills, pairing up the rhyming words from this week’s story, ‘Monkey Puzzle’.

Minibeast Yoga

Moving around the floor like a minibeast. How many can you move like?

You are the BEST!

Congratulations to everyone for your wonderful online learning at home this week. We are proud of you all!

We hope you have had a fun day joining in with the activities. Thank you for sending us pictures of your work.

See you again tomorrow.

All About Numbers

Today we are going to have a group of objects to count and then we can move them around, count them again and know that the total amount is still the same.

To link with the story for this week, ‘Monkey Puzzle’, we are going to use caterpillars for the counting activity.

You will need:

4 caterpillars (pictures, pasta pieces, Lego, coins etc)

a bowl for the caterpillars

4 pots

number cards 3 and 4

First of all you need to count out three caterpillars, find the number 3 digit card and put one caterpillar into each of the pots. I used muffin cases. Like this:

Count the caterpillars, one, two, three. Now move the caterpillars around in the pots, or muffin cases. Like this:

Count the caterpillars again. There are still three, even though the caterpillars have been moved, none have been added, none have been taken away, the total is still three.

Now move the caterpillars in the pots again. Count them as before, noticing that the total is still three even though the caterpillars have been moved, none have been added, none have been taken away.

Continue to rearrange the caterpillars, counting them each time. The key learning here is to understand that although the caterpillars have been moved the total number stays the same. None of the caterpillars have been taken away, none have been added, they have been moved but the amount is still the same number.

Next repeat the above activity with four caterpillars using the number 4 digit card. Like this:

We hope you have enjoyed counting caterpillars.

Please send us pictures of your maths learning today. We love looking at all of them.

Let’s Talk

Today we are going on another minibeasts hunt, we will be looking for specific minibeasts. We would like you to look for minibeasts that fly and what live on plants.

Time for you to go and have a look in your garden for some minibeasts.

You may want to look for some on and under the leaves , under and on the trees and on the flowers.

Here is a checklist for you to use for your hunt.

Did you spot any minibeasts that fly or live on the plants?

When you have found the minibeasts, can you put some chopped up fruit in your garden and go back to it later on or even tomorrow to see if any of the minibeasts have had a nibble at it.

Enjoy this activity boys and girls. Send in your pictures of your minibeast hunts – Comtactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Rhyme time

Let’s have some nursery rhyme fun. Can you join in with down in the jungle?

Yesterday we introduced a new story to you called Monkey Puzzle, we would like you to listen to this story again but really concentrating on the rhyming words.

Did you hear the rhyming words?
Can you match the rhyming words from the story.

Here are all the words we are going to mix and match. Write them down and cut them out just like I have.

We are now going to mix them up and find the pair of rhyming words.

Here is how we would like you to play the game. Parents can you read the words out for the children to hear the rhyming words.

Enjoy the game children, show your teachers how you got on –

Marvellous Monday

Hope you all had a lovely weekend, we have had a nice Monday looking at your marvellous work!

Story Time

Today we introduced a new story to the children called Monkey Puzzle. The children have been sharing what they like and what they don’t like about the story.

Drawing Butterflies

Today the children have been enjoying drawing butterflies for our write dance activity.

Butterfly Life Cycles

The talking activity today was learning about the butterfly life cycle. The children had to create their own butterfly life cycle. They have used different types of resources to make their life cycles. Some children have decided to draw the life cycle. Well done, very creative.

How Many Caterpillars?

For number today the children have been representing how many caterpillars they have by drawing them.

Busy Bees

The children have been busy with the activities on the blog. Please continue to share your work with us, we love to see it.

Hope you have all enjoyed your Monday.

See you tomorrow Nursery.

Lets Talk

This week we are continuing with the theme minibeasts, but today we are focusing on the life cycle of a butterfly.

We are going to create our own butterfly life cycle.

You can use different kinds of resources to make your life cycle, choose one that you feel is best .
You can draw it.

You can use pasta to create the different stages of the life cycle.

Or you can use anything you have in your home that looks like part of the stages of the life cycle.

Once you have made your butterfly life cycle, can talk about what happens?

  • What happens first?
  • What happens next?
  • What happens then?
  • What happens at the end?
  • Where did the butterfly come from?
  • Where was the egg?
  • What did the caterpillar do?
