Let’s talk

Today we are finding out about our favourite fruits. Here is Dr Ranj telling us how to keep healthy with plenty of sleep and eating healthy food.

Today we are going to make a graph of our families favourite fruit.

First you need to ask everyone what they like. You may need to send a message to family that live in another a house to find out what they like. Can you ask 10 different people?

Can you make a graph of the favourite fruits like this one? You can draw your family or stick on photos.

How many people did you ask?

How many people like each fruit? (Can you write the numbers on with help?)

Which fruit is the most popular?

Which fruit is the least popular?

Are there any fruits that have the same?

Well done, that was amazing story telling.

Cool Down
Last week we created our very own fruit shapes with our body. Today I’m going to give you a challenge! Using your body again but this time, can you make 3 fruits that are a circle? If so send us your pictures, we would love to see your ideas. Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

All About Numbers

To continue our learning about The Hungry Caterpillar, we are going to make caterpillar pictures to help your child learn to match the correct amount of objects to numbers.

First, draw ten heads for the caterpillars and number them up to 10, but not in order. Then using some green paint, dip your finger into it and print the caterpillars’ heads. You can use crayons or felt tips if you don’t have paint.

Next read the number at the front of each caterpillar and print the correct amount of green segments for each caterpillar’s body using the green paint. If you do not have paint, just draw the correct amount of green segments instead and colour them in.

Finally draw feet onto the caterpillars and colour in the ears if you wish.

When the caterpillars have dried, read the numbers and count the green segments on each body to check they match the number at the front. Remember not to include the head when counting.

Have fun making your caterpillars and send us your photos to:

Let’s write

Funky fingers

Today we are getting our fingers busy and making them stronger for writing. Lets get our arms warmed up first to Head, shoulders, knees and toes.

We are now going to use a spoon to move the grapes from one bowl to another using a spoon. How many can you do in a minute?

Let’s talk

Today we are sorting healthy fruit and unhealthy food. Remember we need to eat 5 portions a day of fruit or vegetables to keep healthy. Here is a funny video where they swap the unhealthy food for healthy food.

Can you sort the food food in your house into unhealthy and fruit. If you don’t have much fruit you can always draw some pictures.

Send your photos to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk.

Marvellous Monday

Delicious Fruit

Wonderful drawings of fruit and great talk about fruit too. Thank you to the children who sent in videos. We loved watching them.

Hungry Caterpillar Maths

Matching the correct amount of food to the numbers, to feed the hungry caterpillars.

Busy Bees

All About Numbers

This week we are learning about The Hungry Caterpillar, so today we are going to use some caterpillar pictures in our counting activity to help your child learn to match the correct amount of objects to the number.

First, draw four caterpillars and colour them in like the one in The Hungry Caterpillar story.

Next, make some simple number cards with numbers 1 to 10 on them, adding dots will help your child to learn the numbers.

Then, put the caterpillars on the floor, or table, cut out the number cards and place one with each caterpillar. In the centre, put a bowl with some caterpillar ‘food’ in. This could be real food, if you have anything spare that you would like to use, or it could be Lego bricks, or coins, anything small. I used dried pasta pieces.

Ask your child to count out the correct amount of ‘food’ to match the number for each caterpillar. Swap the number cards so that all of the numbers have been used, so that your child becomes confident with the numbers on them.

Ask your child questions such as:

Which number is on this card?

How many pieces of food does this caterpillar need to eat?

Which caterpillar has got the most amount of food?

Which caterpillar has got the least amount of food?

Can you read this number?

Can you match the correct amount of food to this number?

We hope you enjoy the counting activity and please send us photos of your child’s learning to:
