All About Numbers

Today’s maths is about the amount of fruit which the caterpillar ate in ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story. It is to help you learn to match the correct amount of fruit to the numbers and then write the numbers correctly.

Here is a song to help you remember how to write the numbers.

Think about the fruit the caterpillar ate on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You might want to watch the story again, posted on the blog on Monday and read the story map to remind you.

Then draw the caterpillar and the fruit he ate on each day, with the number next to the amount he ate, like this:

It is very important that you write your numbers correctly, like they show you in the video.

Finally, colour in the pictures.

Ask your child questions such as:

What did the caterpillar eat on Monday?

How many did he eat?

What did the caterpillar eat on Tuesday?

How many did he eat?

Which fruit did the caterpillar eat four of?

Which fruit did the caterpillar eat the most of?

Please send us pictures of your child’s learning to:

Ready to read.

Today we are retelling the Hungry caterpillar story again. Enjoy watching it again before you retell it to someone in your house.

Here is the story map to help you retell the Hungry Caterpillar.

Well done, I hope you enjoyed telling the story and are getting really good at that now.

What healthy food did the caterpillar eat?

What unhealthy food did the caterpillar eat?

Which food would you eat?

Let’s talk.

Today we are going to have some fun making healthy fruit kebabs. Remember to eat 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day. A portion in the size of your palm.

Here is a video to explain what to do.

Can you use the fruit you have at home to make a kebab or fruit salad is you don’t have any sticks.

Remember to wash your hands before you start and cut safely with a knife.

The grapes were slippy and the strawberries were soft. The apple is crunch and has a skin on it.

My strawberry had seeds on the outside and the apple had pips in the middle.

Enjoy eating the healthy kebab or put it in a bowl. I think the strawberry is my favourite.

Talk about the different fruits you used:-

What do they feel like?

What do they taste like?

Did you need to peel any of the fruit?

Did you find any pips or seeds in the fruit?

Let’s write.

Tomorrow is 75 years since VE day celebrating the end of the Second World war in Europe.

Here is a video of how people celebrated at the time.

Many people will be celebrating on Friday with a picnic at home. At home I have been baking and making bunting to hang outside the house. Here are some ideas about how you could celebrate at home.

Today we are going to make bunting to hang up outside.

Have a fantastic time and send your photos to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Fruit or Unhealthy!

This week we have been learning all the different types of fruits within our healthy eating. Today for our P.E activity we are going to use those healthy eating skills and see if you can spot the fruits or the unhealthy items that we are allowed sometimes.

To get ourselves warmed up let’s practice our star jumps and squatting. So let’s do 20 star jumps (remember land on your squishy toes) and now do 20 squats.

Lovely! Now we are all warmed up it’s time to do the main activity.

So here is a video for you to use for this activity, it involves spotting the fruits and unhealthy foods and when you see them you need to squat ( for unhealthy foods) or star jump (for the fruits.) You can use Miss Woodward’s video to support you through the activity, or you can use your own items in your house.

Great job!

Remember send in your pictures or videos to us, it will be lovely to see how you got on with this activity. Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

All About Numbers

Today we are going to learn about making a colour pattern using numbers to help. First take a look at this short video about patterns.

To make your pattern you will need to draw a caterpillar and put numbers 1,2 and 3 on the body segments.

Then decide upon three colours for the colour pattern and make a colour code. For example, Number 1: Red

Number 2: Yellow

Number 3: Green

Like this:

You are now ready to make your caterpillar colour pattern. By reading the numbers on the caterpillar and matching them to those on the colour code the pattern will be completed correctly.

Once your child has completed the caterpillar pattern, ask questions such as;

Which colour did you use for number one?

Which colour did you use for number two?

Which number is in the red segments?

Which number is in the green segments?

How many number threes can you see?

Have fun making your caterpillar colour pattern and send us your photos to:
