Let’s talk

Five a day

We have now learnt about healthy fruit and vegetable. Remember we need to eat five portions a day. A portion is the size of the palm of your hand.

Today we are going to make a hand with the five portions a day but first enjoy this song to help you.

Now follow the instructions on this video to make you own Healthy hand.

Looking forward to seeing your healthy hands at ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Vegetable or Unhealthy

In our happy and healthy theme this week we are focusing on different types of vegetables.

Last week we played a game with the spying the fruits, today we are going to play the same game but spot the vegetables.

The activity involves showing the children these items of food, they will carry out an action to represent whether it is a vegetable or an unhealthy food.

–  A tuck jump for a vegetable
– A lunge for unhealthy food

Here is Miss Woodward’s video to support you with any of the food items or feel free to use some items from your home.

Send in your pictures or videos – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

All About Numbers

Today we have a number matching game for you to play with your family, it is called ‘The Sweetcorn Game’. Each player will need a sweetcorn playing sheet and you will need some counters, enough for twelve each and two dice, numbered 1 to 6. I used sequins for counters, but you could use pompoms, or coins. I did not have any dice so I used an app on my iPad, but you could make some dice with blocks and stick numbers on.

Take it in turns to roll the two dice and count the total number of spots. If you use a dice app (I used rolladie.net) it will show you the total number and then you just need to match it correctly to the same number on the sweetcorn and cover it with a counter. Like this:

Continue to take turns, each time rolling the dice once and covering the number on your sweetcorn.

If you roll a number which you already have then you must miss a turn and pass the dice to the next player. The winner is the person who covers all of the numbers on their sweetcorn first. Good luck!

How many dots are on both of the dice?

Can you count all of the dots on the dice?

Which number do you need to find on the sweetcorn?

Where is number eight on the sweetcorn?

Enjoy the game with your family and please send us photos of you playing it to:

Talk For Writing

As we have been learning The Very Hungry Caterpillar story, sit back an join in with the repeated phases, we know you know it!

Now nursery can you retell the story using the story map and the actions you have created yourself.

The next activity we would like you to do is, as we know you are all good story tellers.
Can you change the story, changing the fruit to vegetables for the caterpillar to eat?

Send in your new stories to us it will be amazing to read them.  Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Salad Faces

Today we are using our theme happy and healthy and we are going to make salad faces.

This activity involves using different types of vegetables to create a funny salad face.

Watch how Steve and Maggie create their own salad face.

Now it’s your turn
Talk about what you are going to use for the eyes, nose, mouth and hair.

Talk about what the face you have made. Is it a happy face, sad face, funny face or grumpy face?

What did you use to chop the vegetables?

How did you stay safe with the equipment?

I hope you enjoyed this activity, send in your pictures it will be great to see them. Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Funky Fingers time

To get ourselves warmed up Miss Woodward has been busy warming her arms, hands and fingers up to the music man.

For our Funky Fingers activity as our theme this week is all about vegetables. We thought we could link the 2 together and use our pinchy pinchy fingers and pick up the peas and put them into a pot or a bowl. You could use frozen peas or tinned peas.

Here is Mrs Nissa’s son showing you the activity.

Here is your timer, how many times can you put your peas in the pot or bowl!

Good job boys and girls – Send in your pictures to contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk
