Ready to read

Here is this week’s story again, Norman and the Very Silly Shell. Enjoy the story then we are going to answer some questions about it.

Who was in the story?

What was wrong with the tennis ball?

What was wrong with the clock?

Where did the bird take Norman?

How did Norman get away from the bird?

What does Norman want to do at the end of the story?

Well done you have listened very carefully.

Let’s talk

Today we are going to make some very funny shells for Norman.

First you need to make a big Norman slug.

Can you help Norman find four different shells?

You can look in the garden, kitchen, your bedroom.

Now can you talk about what you have found.

Can you talk about how the objects feel like? (Are they :- hard, soft, smooth, bumpy or prickly)

Which shell do you think norman will like the best and why?

I have chosen a smooth painted stone which is very hard and heavy. I have also chosen a very bumpy fir cone that is much lighter. It feels rough to touch. My third shell is the bumpy beads they are small and smooth. My favourite shell is the whoopee cushion as it is very squashy and makes a funny noise.

Send in you very silly shells to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Wonderful Wednesday

Ready To Read

The children took part in an I spy game with minibeasts today. This meant they had to listen carefully to the sounds they hear at the start of the words. What great listening boys and girls.

Wiggly Woo

Today the children have been talking about the wiggly worms. Some of the children went looking for their own worms, whereas some children just watched the video and spoke about the worms they saw. What amazing talking we have had.

Funky Fingers time

For funky fingers the children had to create a wiggly worm using pasta or beads and a pipe cleaner. They used their pinchy pinchy fingers to create their worm and then they made it look like it was wiggling into a spiral shape. Good job Nursery.

All about length.

Using spaghetti today the children had to use their imagination and think the spaghetti was a wiggly worm. They then had to measure the different sizes and order them correctly, some ordered them longest to shortest and some measured them shortest to longest. You have all done a fantastic job well done!

Busy Bees

Children are still doing brilliant counting with the 5 frame well done!

A wonderful Wednesday it has been with the lovely work sent to us, another day of making your teachers smile well done nursery give yourselves a fantastic you’re the best .

See you tomorrow.

All About Length

Today we are focusing on ordering the different sizes and linking this to our theme this week (mini beasts), we would like you to use some spaghetti and imagine they are wiggly worms.

Join in with this song to learn the vocabulary.

Once you have made your spaghetti wiggly just like a worm, can you order them longest to shortest?

Now you have ordered them longest to shortest can you name your wiggly worms using the correct vocabulary.

Here are the words you need to order:
– Longest
– Longer
– Shorter
– Shortest

It doesn’t matter which way you decide to order your wiggly worms.

Let’s write

Today is funky fingers to practice our pinch, pinch, pinch. First let’s get warmed up with Daddy finger.

Today we are making snail spirals or wiggly worms.

Use a pipe cleaner, wool or string to thread on your beads or pasta.

The smaller the pasta the harder it is to thread.

Once you have threaded on the beads or pasta can you wind it up to make a spiral or keep it long line a wiggly worm?

Keep pinch pinching and enjoy.

Let’s talk

Today we are talking about wiggly worms. Enjoy this song to get started.

Here is Mr Bloom hunting for worms.

Where do worms live?

What do worms look like?

How do they move?

How do worms make compost?

Now can you go on a minibeast hunt and find some worms?

Enjoy watching this video of the worm I found wiggling about.

They do like nice wet soil so you may find giving the soil a water helps them come up nearer the top.

Did you see any other minibeasts while you were looking?

Send in you’re photos to ContactNursery@Holbrook.coventry.sch.uk
