Afternoon Nursery Fun in the Sun

We have welcomed more children back to Nursery in the afternoons this week. We have been so lucky to have had such great weather, making the most of our time in the garden.

The children have enjoyed activities indoors and outdoors based upon our book for the week, ‘Norman the Slug and his Silly Shell’.

Fun Indoors

Counting out the correct number of objects for a given number. Counting a given number of objects and writing the correct number. Making dinner in the role play area and drawing the whole family. Imaginative play with the small world toys. Mixing new colours to paint beautiful snails. Well done everyone.

Fun Outdoors

Using natural resources to make pictures. Keeping active by completing the hurdles challenge. Cooling down by playing with water, giving the plants a drink a too. Enjoying making up stories with the police station and small world police officers. Filling containers with the hosepipe, funnel and jugs. What busy children!

Thank you everyone for such a fabulous week. We hope all of our children have enjoyed being back in Nursery as much as the teachers have.

Nursery is back open again next week for the morning nursery children. The online activities are still continuing everyday.

Have a lovely weekend.

All About Numbers

Today for our number activity we are going to be counting the spots on the ladybird. We will be working out how many spots does the ladybird have altogether.

First you will need to draw out a ladybird.

When you have done that you the need to see if you can find anything colourful, this can be buttons, beads or you can draw the spots onto your ladybird and colour them in.

You will also need your number cards for this activity.

Now let’s start the activity!

Can you see I have put two different coloured spots on to my ladybird. I then counted all the spots altogether. I have 3 blue and 2 yellow, altogether I have 5. The children need to make sure they are counting all the spots altogether to show the skill of counting in an irregular arrangement.

Here is another arrangement of spots on the ladybird. I have 4 pink and 3 yellow, altogether I have 7 spots.

Can the children work out how many spots I have on this ladybird?

That’s right I have 2 red and 7 yellow, altogether I have 9.
Well Done!

Have a go yourselves at this Nursery and send in your pictures to show us how you got on – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Let’s write

Today funky fingers is going to get slimy but first lets get warmed up with wake up shake up.

Now to make some slime to write in. You can use soap or shaving foam. (You can see what you are writing easier in shaving foam.)

Can you also draw some wiggly worms and spiral snail shells.

Remember to draw you spiral anti clockwise.

If you need to practice any letters of your name remember to watch it on this video to help you write it correctly.

Send your wonderful writing to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Let’s talk

Today we are going to make a minibeast home to keep outside in your garden.

You will need a container plant pot or plastic drink bottle, stick, bark, stones and any other things you can find in your garden or park. You can use rolled up paper if you can’t find anything outside. You may also need some string if you want to hang it up.

Once you have collected lots of bits to fill your container, now fill it up.

You will need to leave your bug home outside, you can hang it up or leave it on the ground. You will need to leave it for a week or more and wait for the Minibeasts to move in.

Send us your marvelous minibeast home pictures to ContactNursery@holbrook.coventry.co.uk

Ready to Read

Today’s story is again by Eric Carle.

Can you remember some of the other books he has written?

Today’s story is the `Very Busy Spider’.

Where did the spider land?

What did the spider spin?

What did the cow want the spider to do?

What did the duck want to do?

What did the spider catch?

Do you have any other books with Minibeasts in at home?

Remember to point to the writing we read starting at the left going to the right. Starting at the top going down to the bottom.

Here is my favourite minibeast book also by Eric Carle.

Send in photos of your minibeast books to ContactNursery@hohlbrook.coventry.sch.uk

Thursday Superstars

Ready to read

Today the children listened to this weeks story again, Norman and the very silly shell. They then answered some questions from the story focusing on who, what and where questions. You have really listened to this story very well Nursery. Well done!

Let’s talk

For our talking activity today the children were making silly shells for Norman. You have all used some brilliant ideas and for this activity. You have have made your teachers smile.

Digging for wiggly worms

For number today the children had to make wiggly worms again with spaghetti. They then had to go digging for the worms and see how many they had without counting them. Once they had guessed how many worms they had. They then had to find the number card. They then put the wiggly worms into a straight line to find out if their estimation was correct.
You all have tried so hard with activity we are so proud of you!

Kicking the ball to a partner

Using music the children worked together with a sibling or someone from their household to create a partnership game. This required kicking the ball to one another . Then they had to challenge themselves and see if they can kick the ball through their partners legs and then stop the ball with their foot. This game is all about coordination.

Busy Bees

Amazing work being sent to us daily and keeping busy well done!

You have all been superstars today, thank you for sharing your work with us and we will look forward to seeing you again tomorrow.

Kick the ball

For today’s P.E we are going to work together to kick the ball to a family member, you are going to kick the ball to another person using the inside of your foot.

You can do this to some music.

Once the music is finished you are going play the music again but you are now going to challenge yourselves. You are going to kick the ball again to someone in your house and this time we are going to kick the ball through that person legs and they have to stop it with their foot. Then you can swap over until the music is finished.

All About Estimating

For today’s activity we are going to do some estimating using spaghetti worms again. I would like you to make lots more worms today as we are going to be estimating up to the number 10.

Lets make them wiggly worms.

Now you have your spaghetti worms you also need some number cards and another bowl.

Lets dig for some worms and put them into your other bowl.

Its time to work out how many you have. Can you guess the amount of wiggly worms before counting them?

Once you have guessed how many wiggly worms you have, can you find that correct number card you have guessed?

In my bowl I guessed the number 5.

Lets count my worms. To count them I have put them straight to see clearly how many I have. That’s what you can do to count them to see if you guessed right.

I guessed 5. Oh never mind there is 4, it doesn’t matter if you are wrong its all about estimating.

Lets dig for some more worms lets see if we can find more this time.

I have guessed 10 this time, lets see if I am right.

Oh I was so close! There is 8 worms in my bowl this time. Remember it doesn’t matter if you are wrong it’s all about estimation.

Have a go boys and girls and send us your pictures so we an see how you got on with this activity – Contactnursery@holbrook.coventry.sch.uk
